European Conventions provide health care throughout the Alps , including Swiss . In some cases it is necessary to advance medical expenses on site and claim a full refund from your EU country of residence.


In many areas there is also the service of a medical emergency by helicopter , which in some cases is free of charge .

Points of ER are present homogeneously throughout the territory .

In case of necessity in remote places not accessible by car, there are national bodies mountain rescue , usually managed by the national health services.
Interventions of this kind requirement says very skilled.

The times may be shorter due to the use of intervention teams by helicopter, but the weather conditions and those of the territory, may extend the time for action.

The mountain rescue service, is in many areas for a fee.

The single European emergency number is 112.

In terms of health security, are not recommended vaccinations. The water is drinkable almost everywhere.
The bathing in lakes and rivers is regulated locally. Some rivers may be subject to flooding caused by the release of water by artificial dams.


Due to the temperature difference between day and night in all seasons, especially in summer at higher altitudes, it is recommended that equipment remains suitable even for low temperatures. In addition, the strong sun exposure, especially in snowy areas, the need for accurate protection through hats, sunscreen, and sun glasses with UV protection.


The altitude that exceeds 4000m only on the highest peaks, it could cause problems for only the most sensitive, but the use of cable cars or helicopters, could increase the risks related to the difference in altitude.

The Alpine area is within the national territories of six countries belonging to the European union, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, and in addition to the confederation of principalities of Monaco and Liechistein.

The safety of people is generally good.

The ease of movement is guaranteed directly by international agreements with the European Union, as the entire area is subject to the Schengen agreements, in particular the freedom of movement of persons.
However, between Switzerland and other countries, there is still the customs control of the people and restrictions on the transportation of goods.
