VIA SEPTIMER AN UNFORGETTABLE HISTORICAL TRAIL
The Via Septimer with the Via Spluga and Via Bregaglia are three classic and cultural hiking routes in the central Alps which, throughout the centuries, have linked the town of Chiavenna to the towns on the north side of the alps, over the passes of Splugen (2115m), Septimer (2311m) and Maloja(1815m).
They bring together people from Grigione, Rhaeto-Romance, Walser and the population of Lombardia. Most of the Via Bregaglia, Via Spluga and Via Septimer paths wind their ways gently along old mule tracks which have either maintained their original characteristics or have at least been restored to something like their natural state.
The routes, as well as offering the opportunity to appreciate a piece of genuine history, also permit the walker to get to know a very particular mountain terrain in company with the local population.
The Via Septimer trail connects in 6 stages the historical city of Chur to Chiavenna across the pass of Septimer, walking through Lenzerheide, the Surses valley and the characteristic villages of Savognin and Bivio.
It is possibile to walk or to mountain bike across the Septimer pass in one day only from Bivio, in the Surses valley, to Casaccia, in the Bregaglia valley.

HOW TO GET TO TO THE SEPTIMER PASS
The Septimer pass is located in Switzerland between Bivio, in the Surses valley, and Casaccia, in the Bregaglai valley.
Bivio and Casaccia are reachble by car and are connected by pubblic busses.
By train:
from Thusis or St. Moritz to Tiefencastel, then 50 min by bus to reach Bivio.
from Chiavenna in italy, then 40 min by bus to reach Casaccia.
The Septimer pass, 2310m, is reachble by foot or MTB only, 3h by foot from Bivio 1769m, or 3h by foot from Casaccia 1458m.

WHITE TURF HORSE RACING ON ST. MORITZ'S FROZEN LAKE
The world famous horse racing event held on St. Moritz’s frozen lake dates back to 1907.
Over 35,000 spectators flock to the frozen lake of St. Moritz on 3 consecutive Sundays in February, to witness the excitement and thrill of the races, against the magnificent backdrop of the Engadin mountains.
Racing events include: galloping, jumping hurdles, or canterting but skijöring is a race invented here in St. Moritz, invariably a favourite with the crowds.

White Turf is usually in Febraury and is located on the frozen lake of St. Moritz.
It’s advisable to take the moving stairway from the centre of town, next to Badrutt's Palace which will bring you directly down to the lake. Parking maybe very limited especially on the last Sunday, so we advise you to arrive well ahead of time or to park in St. Moritz Bad and then, to either walk or take a bus (10 minutes on foot).

PREDA BERGUN THE FAMOUS TOBOGGAN TRACK OF THE ALBULA PASS
Directly from St. Moritz or Thusis is possible to reach the small village of Preda and the famous toboggan track of full excitement on wooden sledges.
After a short train ride on the UNESCO train to Preda, you can start the 6km sledging track to the charming town of Bergün.
So, all you have to do it to take the train in the direction of Albula-Chur and get off at Preda. If you have reserved the sledges, when you purchased the ticket, you will be able to collect them at the little wooden hut in front to the train stop at Preda by showing them your id card.
After aprox 5 mins on foot, you’ll see the beginning of the run which descends on a slope of 6 km reaching Bergun.
The slope is lit up every night except Monday. It’s easy, so it is quite doable even for kids (helmet advisable).
In case, you want to do the run a second time or return to St. Moritz, you will have to walk through Bergun (very pretty) to get back to the train station. You will be able to give back your sledge if you have rented it, in one of the member shops.
Otherwise, if you want to try the faster run, once you have finished the first slope, take the seat lift which you will find on the right of the arrival and go up to Darlux. From here, you can expect a mind-blowing run not appropriate for kids, if not accompanied.
