The Bivouac Petazzi near the small lake of Ledù is a place that will enter your heart. It is an open support point located at 2245m along the western Alta Via del Lario.
It can accommodate up to about eight people, very narrow, given the small size of the typical metal structure.
The Alta Via del Lario is an itinerary for those who love nature, the never too harsh views of the Pre-Alps, the rural and little frequented areas, with good training.
"From the mouth of the Cannone, which can be reached by climbing up from Val Chiavenna, the small red structure of the Petazzi Bivouac rises on a promontory between Lake Ledù and the large area of Lake Como.
Solitary among the rocks and grass bushes, few guests and a few sheep, the bivouac is the sentinel to one of the most beautiful views of the Alps. While sipping a hot tea you can admire, through the entrance door, Lake Como up to Bellagio.
An isolated and magical place, a destination not to be missed, for those who visit the Valchiavenna and the area of the Alto Lario "
Fabio and Paolo

The pyramid of the Alps, the Matterhorn in German and Cervino in Italian is certainly the Icon of the Alps.
Its pyramidal figure, towering alone in the sky, its four ridges, which intersect at the top between the Italian valley of Breuil-Cervinia and the Swiss valley of Zermatt, and its epic history, for its conquest, have made the Cervino-Matterhorn famous all over the world
In fact, the image of the Matterhorn has been used for numerous advertising campaigns (one example is the Toblerone chocolate) and is an unmissable tourist destination in the Alps and half for many mountaineers, who every year climb the Swiss ridge (Hornli ridge), or the more challenging Italian ridge (Lion's ridge).
"Zermatt and Cervinia are very popular with many visitors. The call of the icon of the Alps, the Matterhorn - Matterhorn, is irresistible, not only for mountaineers.
This, unfortunately, makes the area often a little saturated with tourists, but it is enough to go a little far away from the traditional itineraries to find oneself at the sight of this famous peak in all tranquillity.
Certainly, the best period could be autumn, when the ski area is not yet open and the valleys of Zermatt and Cervinia are dressed in red with the peaks already whitewashed."
Fabio e Paolo
The first ascent and conquest of the summit of the Cervino-Matterhorn were carried out by a Swiss rope team with the famous English alpinist Edward Whymper, competing with an Italian rope team led by the guide Jean Antoine Carrel.
On 14 July 1865 Whyper and his companions reached the summit first by climbing the Hornli ridge from Zermatt (today this is considered the easiest route for the Matterhorn Matterhorn climb), unfortunately, the success was overshadowed by the loss of two companions during the descent.
On the same day Jean Antoine Carrel and companions, starting from Cervinia, were unable to complete the ascent, giving up near the summit. The feat succeeded only three days later but climbing the more difficult Lion's Ridge.
In 1965, from 18 to 22 February, the brilliant Italian mountaineer Walter Bonatti wrote a page in the history of mountaineering, completing the first winter solo ascent of the severe north face of the Matterhorn, starting from Zermatt.
The moment was also immortalized by some photos taken from a reconnaissance plane.
Thanks to the state-of-the-art facilities in Zermatt and Cervinia, the two resorts offer a very wide range of tourist attractions, both in summer and winter, thanks also to the Matterhorn ski paradise, which extends between the Swiss and Italian sides.
Zermatt is not accessible by car, but only by train, and is the final station of the Glacier Express, a route through the Swiss Alps, which connects Zermatt - Andermatt - St. Moritz.
Some areas upstream of Zermatt are connected by rack and pinion trains, an ideal route for visitors who want to admire these vast views and the Matterhorn pyramid.
The Alpine Guides of Zermatt and Cervinia propose the climbing of the Cervino-Matterhorn and numerous other itineraries on the walls and peaks of the Zermatt and Cervinia area, both mountaineering and freeride skiing routes.
The Classic ascent is along the Hornli crest from Zermatt, the most climbed itinerary, or along the more difficult crest of the Lion from Cervinia, both are climbed at altitude, difficulty AD in an exposed Alpine environment, on often unstable terrain with the possibility of ice and snow.
